Blind carbon copy, more commonly known as BCC, is an email feature that prevents your recipients from seeing the email addresses of the other recipients if you’re sending the email to multiple people. Once you add an email address in the BCC field, it will become invisible to everyone who receives your message.
Follow the steps below to use the BCC field in your Outlook desktop and web apps.
Outlook Desktop App
Adding BCC
- Open your Outlook desktop app and compose an email as usual.
Write your email. - Go to the Options tab.
Select the Options tab. - In the “Show Fields” section, click Bcc.
Select the Bcc button. - Add your recipients in the Bcc field. Then, hit Send.
Add your recipients, then click Send.
Turning Off BCC
Once you’ve turned on BCC, every email you send moving forward will show the BCC field. Follow these steps to turn it off.
- Compose a new email.
Compose your email. - Select the Options tab.
Click Options. - Click the Bcc button in the “Show Fields” section. The “Bcc” field will now be gone.

Adding BCC in the Outlook Web App
- Sign in to outlook.com.
- Write your email as usual.
Compose your email. - Click the Bcc button next to the “To” field.
Select the Bcc button. - Add your Bcc recipients. Then, press Send when you’re ready to send out the emails.
Add your recipients, then click Send.
